Dr. Toby Brooks is founder and President of Born Athletic and also serves as Director of Sports Medicine and Athletic Development. A native of Golconda, Illinois and graduate of Pope County High School, Brooks was a three-year varsity starter on the basketball team. He attended Southeastern Illinois College and earned an Associate of Arts degree before moving on to Anderson University in Indiana to play basketball and study athletic training. His stay at AU was short lived, as he transferred to Southern Illinois University Carbondale after just one semester. He completed his undergraduate studies in athletic training and was named one of the Top 25 Graduating Seniors at SIUC in 1998, then accepted a graduate assistant athletic trainer position at the University of Arizona. At the U of A, he completed both his Masters and Doctoral degrees in Physical Education while working with the Wildcat women's gymnastics, football, and baseball programs. After completing his studies, Brooks has worked as a certified athletic trainer and/or strength coach with numerous professional, collegiate, and high school athletics programs, has published multiple articles and studies, and presented regularly at national and international conferences. Brooks currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Kinesiology and Director of Athletic Training Education at SIUC. In his free time, he enjoys drawing, playing the drums, and spending time with his wife Christi, daughter Brynnan (4), and son Taye (1).
